In Class survey HSS214 result

My apologies for the belated the survey results for the HSS 214. I meant to let my fellow classmates to know the result by the end of last semester, but now, two semesters have passed. Finally, not never, the result is here:

It is not surprising that in Singapore (such claim must be qualifed considering it was only N=57, class survey) there is still a family value exists among young people, especially university students.

The total in class survery participants N=57

From average family size of 2.65 child per family

45.6% of their mothers do not work outside home for paid employment;
42.9% of their mother do hold a full time job outside home;
only 10.5% of them have a partime job

Out of 57 our classmates, 34 of them are expect them to be married in the future; 21 of them are not sure while only 2 of them are expected to be single;

70.2% of our participants wish to combine career and family, if they can;
19.3% of them however, prefer family first, while 10.5% of them prefer career first;

Upon the question whether do you agree the family relationship is more important than other social relationship, 68.4% of them agree; 24.6% of them are neutral and 7.0% of them disagree.

One of main purpose of this study is to find out whether mother's employment status has any impact on their children ideas about family, and career choice so on. The further correlation test will be done.

Over all, the survey did show that most of Singapore students hold high family vaule in their expectation.
